Today, Softronic hosted a special event in Craiova to mark the successful completion of the modernization of 19 electric locomotives, one of the most significant railway fleet renewal programs carried out in Romania in recent years.

The event brought together local authorities, project partners, industry representatives, and members of the Softronic team to celebrate a project that contributes to the modernization of passenger rail transport and highlights the capabilities of Romania’s railway industry.

Among the speakers were Craiova Mayor, Lia Olguța Vasilescu, Softronic General Manager, Ion Gîrniță and Commercial Director, Sebastian Ghiță, who emphasized the importance of investing in sustainable rail mobility and the role such projects play in supporting economic growth and technological development.

Delivering 19 modernized locomotives for the future of rail transport

The completion of this program marks the culmination of thousands of hours of engineering, planning, and teamwork.

Through the modernization process, the locomotives have been upgraded with modern technologies designed to improve operational performance, reliability, energy efficiency, and long-term sustainability. The project also supports broader European objectives aimed at strengthening rail transport as an environmentally responsible and competitive mobility solution.

Equally important is the fact that the entire program was delivered on schedule, demonstrating Softronic’s ability to successfully manage large-scale railway modernization projects while meeting demanding technical and operational requirements.

The event also showcased the final two locomotives included in the program, which are scheduled for delivery in the coming days: 481-018 Ecaterina Teodoroiu and 481-019 Hariclea Darclée.

Honoring two remarkable romanian personalities

The last 2 locomotives in the project continue a long-standing tradition of honoring individuals who have left a lasting mark on Romania’s history and culture.

Ecaterina Teodoroiu remains one of Romania’s most celebrated national heroes. Remembered for her courage and sacrifice during the First World War, she has become a symbol of determination and patriotism for generations of Romanians.

Hariclea Darclée, one of the most acclaimed sopranos of her era, performed on some of Europe’s greatest stages and played a key role in bringing Romanian talent to international audiences. Her artistic legacy continues to inspire opera lovers around the world.

By carrying these names, the locomotives serve not only as symbols of technological progress but also as tributes to Romania’s rich historical and cultural heritage.

A milestone for Softronic and romanian railways

For Softronic, the completion of this project represents far more than the successful delivery of a contract.

It reflects the expertise, dedication, and capabilities developed in Craiova over decades of railway engineering and manufacturing. It also reinforces the company’s commitment to supporting the modernization of railway transport through innovative and reliable solutions.

With all 19 locomotives completed and ready to serve passengers across Romania, this achievement stands as another important milestone for both Softronic and the future of sustainable rail transport.
