Softronic Craiova continues to support the modernization of Romania’s railway transport by delivering a new electric locomotive under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
Locomotive 481-001, named after the historian and academician Nicolae Iorga, marks another important step towards a more efficient railway system aligned with European standards.
Locomotive 481-001 “Nicolae Iorga” – the 15th unit delivered
Locomotive 481-001, the leading unit of the 19 locomotives modernized under the PNRR program, has been delivered to CFR Călători, becoming the 15th locomotive completed within this contract.
This delivery reflects the steady progress of the project and Softronic’s commitment to providing modern, reliable and efficient solutions for passenger railway transport. The locomotive has already entered commercial service, operating its first route on Bucharest – Constanța.
International testing and ETCS validation
Before delivery, the locomotive underwent an extensive testing process, including performance tests on the Hungarian railway network.
It was used for:
- dynamic and functional testing to demonstrate technical compatibility
- configuration of the ETCS system and national safety systems to ensure interoperability
These stages confirmed the locomotive’s capability to operate safely and efficiently on European railway networks.
