We recently completed the delivery of the third modernized locomotive under the PNRR-funded contract (National Recovery and Resilience Plan), a project with a significant impact on the efficiency and safety of rail transport in the country.
The locomotive, formerly known as 295 CFR Călători, has been fully upgraded and is now prepared to meet the highest demands of modern passenger transport.
A tribute to courage and performance: Smaranda Brăescu featured on the locomotive
This unit has not only been technically modernized, but it now also carries a distinctive visual identity, honoring one of Romania’s most courageous historical figures – Smaranda Brăescu. We chose to associate this locomotive with her image to convey a message of determination and inspiration.
Smaranda Brăescu was the first licensed female parachutist in Romania and one of the earliest women worldwide to conquer the skies through courage, discipline, and passion. In the 1930s, she broke world records and became an international symbol of female bravery. Her presence on this locomotive is no coincidence – it is a tribute to performance, innovation, and the strength to go beyond limits. Just as she opened new paths in aviation, we aim to contribute to a new era in Romania’s railway transport.
A new stage in railway modernization
The modernization of this locomotive is part of a broader effort to improve the services offered to passengers across Romania. Through the PNRR-funded project, we are upgrading long-serving locomotives that have been the backbone of the passenger rail system.
