SOFTRONIC will begin testing the first TransMontana v3.2 locomotive equipped with ETCS Thales.
The five locomotives from the framework contract signed in the summer of 2022 are part of the new 3.2 version, which will be equipped with ETCS supplied by Thales Group.
The locomotives will be authorized according to the TSI (Technical Specifications for Interoperability) standards.
By early 2025, LTE Rail Romania will have a fleet of 10 locomotives manufactured by Softronic Craiova between 2017 and 2024, covering versions 1.0, 2.0, and 3.2. The continuous development of the TransMontana project and its six asynchronous traction systems have made Softronic locomotives a successful export product since 2018, being ideal for heavy freight train traction on hilly and mountainous railway routes.
ETCS (European Train Control System) is the core signaling and control component of ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System).
The TransMontana locomotive is an electric Co-Co type locomotive, equipped with six asynchronous electric motors, delivering a power output of 6000 kW (electronically limited in continuous operation). It can operate on both 25 kV 50 Hz AC networks and 15 kV 16⅔ Hz AC networks.
